Growing up playing Soccer at the highest level taught me many valuable lessons in business. How great results are achieved by creating a team of talented people with different skills that make each other better, a high level of trust, hunger, and a shared goal.
Imagine you go to Yankees stadium they hand you a bat and a young award winner is pitching and they say if you can hit a home run you’ll get success.
But here is the deal, everyone in the world can take as many swings as they want and get in line as many times as they want so of course everyone in the whole city and from everywhere are driving in and they’re lining up.
Most people aren’t even going to swing, they’ll say “there is no way I can hit a home run they’re gonna stay home”
Some people are going to come and take one swing and hear everyone booing them out. “Give someone else a chance” and they’re gonna put the bat down and they’re gonna leave.
Then you’re gonna have the person that takes 10 swings and the place is gonna be booing like crazy “give someone else a chance you bum, there is hundreds and thousands of people waiting in line” and they’re gonna give up and put the bat down.
Then you get the one person who literally hears the booing hears the hate and keeps swinging and keeps swinging and keeps swinging and everyone is like this is the worst scumbag in the world I hate you, give someone else a chance, your such a jerk, and for six hours this goes on. And finally, they hit a home run.
No one remembers all the nonsense, they say “that guy stuck in there and he or she hit the home run”
Most people don’t want to keep swinging, they just hear all the noise around them and they give up.
The mentality that I got is that I just want to keep swinging, I don’t really care what you’re talking about, I don’t care if you’re hating on me or talking trash, I know what my mission is and I know what I’m there to do and that’s what I’m going to do.
And if you want success that’s what you have to do too. You have to keep swinging and there is gonna be a lot of hate and a lot of booing along the way, but when you get that one hit, that one home run, that’s all everyone will remember anyway.
